BMW, which stands for Bayerische Motoren Werke, is a German vehicle that
is synonymous with sportiness and performance. While BMW initially
built airplanes and motorcycles, it turned to automobile manufacturing in
1928.
BMW took a short hiatus from building cars during World War II, but after the war reintroduced cars that were very different from those before the war. The first car it introduced was a limousine, while the second was an expensive roadster. Both models were very expensive and were produced in limited quantities. BMW was facing bankruptcy in 1961 when it was saved by the 1500, a sporty, rear-wheel drive car that more or less set the tone for future BMWs. Two-door, four-door, cabriolet, and estate versions were introduced. Today, the small 3-series remains the best-selling BMW. For those who love a high-performance, high-quality vehicle, there is bound to be a BMW to suit your taste, whether you are looking for a speedy sports coupe or a rugged SUV.
