First manufactured in 1920, Lincoln is Ford's luxury brand. The
first Lincoln, a luxury sedan, did not enjoy great success due to a
combination of its bland styling and the recession. But when Edsel
Ford took over the independent company in 1922, Lincoln sales increased
significantly.
Just like his father had good instincts when it came to manufacturing affordable cars, Edsel Ford seemed to know what the upper class was looking for. The original Lincoln V8 L Series was popular, and was followed by the K series and the Lincoln Zephyr. By the early 1950s, Lincoln was just behind Cadillac in the luxury vehicle scene. Not bad for a fairly new company! But the times weren't always good. In the late 1950s Lincoln suffered a bit, only recovering when the hugely popular Continental was introduced. During the late 1990s, the Lincoln Town Car, reminiscent of the 1970s, became popular in its luxury limousine form. Today Lincoln continues to be Ford's upmarket brand. In addition to luxury cars, it also markets the Navigator, which is a pick-up truck; and the Aviator, which is an SUV model. Learn more about Lincoln vehicles using the website resources below.
