Maybach was a German car that was produced from 1921 to 1941. The
car was founded by a father and son team, Wilhelm and Carl Maybach.
While Wilhelm was an engineer and designer remembered for developing the
spray carburetor and vertical-twin engine layout, it was his son, Carl,
who loved cars and was responsible for introducing the brand.
Maybach cars were the luxury cars of the day, and were often compared to the Mercedes. They were large, heavy, well-engineered, and plush. Popular models included the Zeppelin and the W5. During the 1930s, when luxury cars were not the focus in Germany, Maybach concentrated on building trucks. Production of the Maybach car ended during World War II, and never resumed. Today, the Maybach company makes diesel engines. Mercedes-Benz revived the Maybach brand in the early 2000s with the Maybach 57 and Maybach 62 models. Maybach Manufacturer Site
