Antique Mercury Truck
In the late 1930s, people basically had two choices when it came to buying cars. They could get a cheap car, such as the Model T, but have absolutely no choice when it came to engine, trim level, or color. Or they could buy an upmarket car like the Lincoln.
But what about people who wanted something in between? Enter the Mercury, one of the first cars to answer the call of middle-class consumers looking for something slightly more upscale but not outrageously expensive. The Mercury Eight was the first model introduced, and was so popular that it sold more than 70,000 cars the first year it was introduced.
Today there is a Mercury to fit just about any need, from small fuel- efficient vehicles to larger family-sized vehicles, from SUVs to people carriers. Mercury still has the reputation for being a solid American car that appeals to the middle-class looking for a few extras.
