The Mini Cooper began in 1959, and was originally designed as a small,
four-passenger car that was meant to be affordable, efficient, and
family-friendly. But in the 1960s, the Mini took on a new
personality. It was no longer the typical housewife's car,
but was seen as the day's coolest accessory. Driven by many
celebrities, the Mini Cooper was cute, fun, and seen as anything
but boring!
Unfortunately, the Mini Cooper struggled to stay alive in the 1970s, and basically disappeared in the 1980s. As SUVs and minivans became more and more popular, the Mini receded to the background and could not find its place. In the 1990s and 2000s, however, the Mini Cooper was revived. Once again, people loved its cool, retro looks. Today's Mini, which is owned by BMW, comes with two doors or four doors, and is surprisingly roomy inside, considering its small exterior. As fuel efficiency and emissions become of concern, the Mini has once again found its place.
