Saturn is the brainchild of GM, which began to formulate ideas for a
small-car project in 1982. In 1983 the concept for Saturn—a
car company that would put people first—was introduced to the world,
and by 1984 the first prototype was complete and ready for evaluation.
Saturn's "people focus" meant that the company was focused on the people who bought their cars as well as the people who built and sold their cars. Saturn was one of the first companies to introduce no-haggle pricing; the sticker price was the price of the car.
By 1990, Saturn had a large fan base, and Popular Science named it one of "The Year's 100 Greatest Achievements in Science and Technology". Saturn has gone on to win many awards since then, included many Driver's Choice Awards.
