Lamborghini (Close up)
Lamborghini is an Italian make founded by Ferruccio Lamborghini, a man who earned his initial wealth in the tractor business. Like many wealthy businessmen of the time, Lamborghini was a car fanatic and owned a Ferrari. When he didn't like the sound the gearbox was making, he confronted Enzo Ferrari, who suggested that perhaps he stick to tractors. That got Lamborghini's competitive juices flowing — he built his own Italian sports car, and a legend was born in 1963.
Unlike most other car manufacturers, every part of the Lamborghini was made at the founder's factory in Sant' Agata, and because of this process, they were very expensive to make. Built to be performance cars, popular early models included the 350GTV, the 400GT, the Miura P400, the Espada, the Islero, and the Jaramo. The most memorable Lamborghini may be the Countach, due to its unique shape and incredible performance.
Lamborghini is now owned by Volkswagen. It continues to be one of the world's most expensive cars, appealing mostly to serious performance car enthusiasts.
